The world has seen some of the most valuable cars go up for auction, but how do you put a price on something that’s absolutely priceless.

Well, the only way would be to make it so expensive only the richest people in the world could possibly afford it.

There are many perks about investing in classic cars as investing in them can be profitable, but also very risky and a difficult process.

But all classic car enthusiasts will always claim classic cars are worth more than money.

Collectables tend to be sold privately, rather than in public auctions.

So with that said, what are the most expensive classic cars ever to be sold at any auction in the world?

This is what we found out…

In 2012 a Mercedes-Benz W196R racecar was sold for a record breaking $31 million at Bonhams auction in England.

It remained the most expensive classic car sold at auction for two years until 2014 when Ferrari stepped up to the stage.

It wasn’t until a 1962 Ferarri 250 GTO showed up.

The Ferrari 250 GTO currently holds the title for the most expensive classic car ever sold at auction, which was at Bonhams Quail Auction in August 2014 for – wait for it – $38,115,000 million!

I read that and had instant heart palpitations. Yes, thirty-eight-million-dollars. It’s absolute insanity.

Since then, several other Ferrari’s including the 1957 Ferrari 335 Sport Scagelietti for a whooping $35,700,00 million at Articurial Paris in 2016.

Still with such a mammoth price tag, this Ferrari was not able to steal the throne from the 250 GTO.

In New York City RM Sotheby’s Auctions, a 1959 Ferrari 290 MM sold for $28 million in 2015.

If you have a spare few million to throw around on cars, treat yourself! But for now, it doesn’t hurt to dream a little…
