The long anticipated AMG ONE is expected to be released 2021
Since his rise to fame in 1990, singing in the boy group, Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, Mark Wahlberg has been long been in the public eye. We all know him as an A-list movie star, regularly appearing on our screens, gluing us to our seats and making us laugh. But, not everyone knows that he is a serious petrol head, in fact, one of his first careers was fixing and restoring cars in a Brooklyn garage. The Hollywood star owns an extensive car collection and is been regularly spotted in his daily Mercedes SLS.
It seems then that the actor has a soft spot for the German car manufacturer, as he was long rumoured to have a highly anticipated Mercedes in his sights. That rumour has since been confirmed, Mark will be one of 275 lucky owners of perhaps, the sports car of the decade. That car, ladies and gentleman, is the Mercedes AMG ‘One’!
Mark might have been rumoured to have ordered one for some time but that’s because the Mercedes project has been in the works for a while. Initially announced back in 2017, the AMG was supposed to be finished two years later but with the prototype struggling to meet emission regulations, it had repeatedly been set back and is not projected to be released until 2021.
“Well worth the wait”
The current global pandemic might have something to say to that projection, however. The worldwide economy will be affected significantly in the pandemic’s aftermath, surely leaving no prisoners, including the automobile industry. German manufacturers in particular, rely heavily on foreign import, namely China, for its engineering materials. This climate will almost certainly delay Mercedes’s determined project. Let’s hope for progression but Wahlberg will be patient, “Well worth the wait”, he say’s. If the AMG performs as much as expected, it will be worth that wait.
AMG One Features
The ‘A’ in AMG stands for Aufrecht, after the founder of AMG Engine Production, race engine pioneers, that ‘A’ though, might as well stand for ambition because this project certainly is that. Mercedes claim the AMG One will be a ‘hybrid hypercar’ and the worlds first road going car with a Formula 1 engine. The company says the car will feature “the very latest and efficient, fully fledged Formula 1 hybrid technology on the road.” Mercedes boss, Tobias Moers, thinks the car could beat the fastest lap at the world famous Nurburgring track.
Listed at an enormous $2.8 million, the expensive and electrified hybrid will have 1,000 horsepower, generated from its 1.6 litre V6 engine and electric motor, capable of 350 km/h and 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. That is serious speed, and serious claims, by Mercedes but the hype of this car might be making some get carried away. This project was not intended to be about becoming the fastest in the world, it was about innovation. The AMG is about Formula 1 technology and those super machines are built around other dynamics that are more paramount, such as aerodynamics, grip and acceleration. The AMG One is the product of an engineering vision.
The machine looks almost as transcendent as it claims about performance. It is quite something to behold with its mesmerising appearance. It almost though, dare it be said, could be in danger of looking ahead of its time. That remains to be seen but what else remains, is that the AMG One is a futuristic looking car.
When all is said and done, perhaps the AMG will be the fastest road car in the world, or perhaps not. Nevertheless, the Mercedes hypercar will lead the way in technological advancements, changing the way supercars are designed and created for the next generation.
